1. What we collect
- Your quiz answers and the results we calculate from them (your temperaments and love languages).
- Your first name and email address, when you ask us to email your result.
- The country you live in, which you pick before seeing your result. We pre-select it from your device's time zone and you can change it. We do not store your IP address or your precise location.
- A link between two results, if you invite a partner and they take the test through your invite. Each of you can then see the other's result.
- Reviews you choose to submit: your first name, star rating and text.
- Usage data from Google Analytics 4, such as the pages you visit, the device and browser you use and your approximate region. IP addresses are anonymized.
- Payment details, when you buy a couple report. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy. We receive confirmation that you paid, never your card number.
We do not ask for sensitive information such as health details, and we do not sell your personal information.
2. Why we use it
- To show you your result and email it to you.
- To compare your result with your partner's when you both take the test.
- To build anonymous country statistics, such as the share of people in a country with each temperament. Only totals are ever shown, never anyone's individual result, and a country appears only once at least 100 people from it have taken the test, so no one can be picked out.
- To write and deliver a paid couple report.
- To send occasional relationship tips, if you agreed to receive them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time.
- To publish reviews after we have checked them.
- To understand how the site is used and make it better.
We rely on your consent for emails and analytics, on our agreement with you to deliver results and reports, and on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site.
3. Country statistics
Your country is saved with your result and added to running totals for that country: how many people have each temperament, top love language and attachment style. These totals power the World Affinity Map, the country profiles and the country figures on your results page.
Each person counts once, with their latest result. The totals hold numbers only: no names, emails or answers. If you ask us to delete your information, your result is also taken out of the totals.
4. Who helps us
We use a small number of service providers to run Affinity Test. They process your information only on our instructions.
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud store results and run our servers in the europe-west1 region (Belgium).
- Google Gemini writes paid couple reports from the two results involved.
- Brevo sends our emails and manages the email list.
- Lemon Squeezy processes payments as our merchant of record.
- Google Analytics measures how the site is used.
- Meta and Google Ads measure which of our adverts led to a visit or a purchase, and may show you our adverts again.
Some of these providers may process information outside South Africa. We use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA and the GDPR.
5. Cookies and local storage
Google Analytics sets cookies to tell visits apart, and our advertising partners (Meta and Google Ads) may set cookies to measure adverts. We also keep small items in your browser's local storage, such as your progress through the test and whether you have already left a review, so the site works the way you expect. You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.
6. How long we keep it
- Results, the country saved with them, and partner links: for as long as they are useful to you, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Anonymous country totals: indefinitely, since they contain no personal information.
- Email address: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We may keep a record that you unsubscribed so we do not email you again.
- Reviews: until you ask us to remove them.
- Payment records: for as long as South African tax law requires.
- Analytics data: for a limited period set in Google Analytics, after which it is deleted automatically.
7. Your rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and the GDPR where it applies to you, you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Object to how we use your information, including for emails and analytics.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting what we did before.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, or to the data protection authority where you live.
8. Children
Affinity Test is meant for adults. If you are under 18, please do not give us your personal information.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters to how we use your information, we will tell you by email.
